Cosmetic Procedures
Botox®

Almost 3.3 million BOTOX® Cosmetic procedures were performed in 2005 alone. Not just models and movie stars, but people from all types of professions.
BOTOX® Cosmetic can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between your brows for up to 4 months. BOTOX®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that BOTOX® is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive under-arm sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.
Fraxel®
REGAIN THE RADIANT SKIN OF YOUR YOUTH
Fraxel® is a laser treatment that helps you to remove years from your appearance. The treatment uses microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. You will have minimal downtime, and you’ll have very little swelling or redness. Unlike treatments such as IPL or microdermabrasion, which target a very superficial layer of your skin, Fraxel® Refine treatment actually resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.
Regardless of the level of sun damage you have, or if you just want prevention and maintenance, there's a Fraxel® treatment for you. The Fraxel® family of treatments has multiple FDA clearances. These include:
repair
- Wrinkles
- Fine lines
- Furrows
- Skin texture
- Pigmented lesions (age/sun spots)
- Sun-induced redness
- Laser blepharoplasty
restore and refine
- Skin resurfacing
- Fine lines around the eyes
- Age/sun spots
- Discoloration and uneven pigmentation
- Melasma (mask of pregnancy)
- Acne scars
- Surgical scars
Juvederm®
JUVÉDERM® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Your healthcare professional eases JUVÉDERM® injectable gel under the skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).
JUVÉDERM injectable gel provides a smooth, natural look and feel and is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.
The injection process takes only about 15 minutes and results are immediate. Plus, there's minimal recovery or downtime. So you can step into your doctor's office for treatment and step right back into your life.
Restylane®
Restylane® injections are intended for wrinkle correction and lip augmentation.
It is a natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA, or Non-Animal Stablized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible.
Restylane® requires no pretesting and has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996. Because Restylane® is non-animal based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. There is virtually no risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. The most commonly reported side effects are temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.
Restylane® lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

Welcome
When I heard the words, "I only wish I'd done it sooner!" from so many patients, I began to think about ways to help future patients shorten the time they spend thinking about LASIK. The following are major questions most people have about whether they should replace their glasses and contacts with the clear natural vision that only LASIK can provide:
- What assurance can you give me that I'll achieve 20/20?
- How much of a risk will I be taking? What's the truth about complications?
- What makes you better than any other surgeon I might find in Charleston?
- How affordable is it really? Will it all be worth it?
We've designed this website so you can get answers to these questions easily. Pick a tab, start your journey, and may your life never be restricted by poor vision again!
About Your Eyes
Astigmatism, nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia (or the need for reading glasses due to age) and cataracts. These are the major vision conditions that reduce our enjoyment of life and create dependency on glasses and contacts. With today’s vision correction technologies, each one of these can be solved. Learn how here.
LASIK
LASIK solves the ‘refractive error’ that causes astigmatism, nearsightedness, far sightedness, and even presbyopia. Dr. David O’Day has performed more than 45,000 refractive procedures, making him one of the nation’s most experienced refractive surgeons.
Cataract Center
Cataracts come to all of us at some time, and usually start developing after the ages of 45-50. Cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure in the world – and one of the safest. Advances in replacement lens technology (IOLs) mean that virtually anyone can gain freedom from the effects of cataracts – and achieve better vision than ever.
Cornea Center
The cornea is the clear, living tissue on the very front part of the eye. Occasionally, either through disease or injury, surgery is needed to restore full vision or arrest declining eyesight. Dr. David O’Day is skilled and experienced at performing the following corneal procedures
Comprehensive Eye Care
Some LASIK centers do 'only LASIK,' but LASIK is not necessarily right for everyone. At Charleston Cornea & Refractive Surgery, in addition to LASIK, we provide the full array of today’s eye care technologies: RK/AK, CK, ALK, excimer laser PRK, LASEK, Epi-K cataract surgery, intraocular lens implantation, corneal transplant surgery, surgical treatment of eye diseases, and general eye care.
