Vision Correction

Phakic Intraocular Refractive Lenses Can Allow Many people to Live Without Depending on Glasses!

Mt. Pleasant, S.C., May 25, 2005 ---The Nearsighted population in the Lowcountry is now able to undergo an alternative surgical treatment that might mean patients can enjoy a better quality of life without depending on glasses. David G. O’Day, M.D. of Charleston Cornea and Refractive Surgery is now offering both the Visian and the Verisyse Phakic Intraocular Lens Implants to appropriate candidates to provide patients with permanent vision correction, allowing many people to enjoy a better quality of life with independence from or less dependence on glasses.

“Fellow eye surgeons around the country are reporting excellent success in treating nearsighted

patients with both the Visian and Verisyse Lenses. They are preserving or restoring vision and allowing many people to enjoy life without depending on glasses,” said Dr.O'Day.  There are a number of people who would be interested in the results that these "intraocular contact lenses" can provide, including people with high degrees of nearsightedness or those who have been told they are not good candidates for LASIK surgery. “I treat many extremely nearsighted patients, and they constantly are asking me if there is a safe and effective way to let them live without the increasing dependence on glasses. Now I can present them with alternatives that may let them be free of glasses and/or contacts,” said Dr. O’Day.

Charleston Cornea and Refractive Surgery is a comprehensive Eye Care and vision correction practice focused on restoring a full range of vision independent from glasses in daily situations.  Studies have found that both the Verisyse  and Visian Phakic Intraocular Lens Implants provide excellent unaided vision which allows people to enjoy most aspects of daily life without dependence on glasses.

_ Over 90% have 20/40 vision or better.

_ 38% gained a line on best-corrected vision

_ Over 90% of patients treated would recommend it to a friend or relative

Studies have also found that the Visian and Verisyse lenses are viable treatments for nearsighted patients (myopes) that provide good vision. Very nearsighted patients are highly motivated to be less dependent on glasses, and they have never enjoyed precise distance vision.  Studies have also found that most bilateral Visian and Verisyse patients function independently from glasses after surgery in most daily situations.
